Gigi Madanipour, from It's a Sparkly Life, wanted to show how to celebrate Valentine's Day with your lady friends and prove this holiday doesn't have to be for couples only. She organized by an ultra feminine brunch with a bunch of local businesses, and I jumped on board to be part of this event. I realized how these events are a great way for businesses to showcase their products in a creative way, and it is great for viewers to see how they would look in a real life setting. Win-Win!
So now you are probably wondering, "How do I even begin to organize something like this?" Good news is I have made it really easy by outlining my 5 steps how to collaborate with fellow entrepreneurs.
1. Pick a topic or theme.
Who is your target client and what are they most interested inright now? This will influence the direction you go in when deciding your topic or theme.
Gigi wanted to showcase a girl's day Valentine's party on her blog since she writes about food and entertaining and the majority of her readership is female. Showing her readers how to decorate and host a Valentine's themed party is relevant and useful for her audience.
As for me, I love working with brands! So having the opportunity to creatively showcase and photograph several businesses products was ideal for my target audience.
2. Reach out to local vendors.
After picking a topic or theme the next step would be to make a list of the different elements you want to include and possible vendors that provide such items. It is key toreach out to vendors that have a similar target market to your own to ensure the cross promotion is most beneficial for everyone involved.
Gigi planned the different elements to the Valentine's Day party and decided she wanted desserts, various decorations and table settings. The following businesses participated in the Valentine's themed party.
Patisserie Petit Lapin: Cakes, donuts, cupcakes, and madelines.
Candylabs: Candy and lollipops
Structube: Table and chairs
Bell Jar Botanicals: Flowers
Balloon Bar: Balloon garland and balloon in a box

Gigi styled the event with additional decorations such as heart confetti, gold charger plates, sprinkle-dipped marshmallows, and hot pink and gold glitter place settings. Every element matched seamlessly.
3. Take photographs or create a video.
The next step is to take photographs or create a video showcasing all the elements provided by the various vendors. This step is important so everyone has visual content they can use for marketing. Photographs and/or video are perfect to share on social media, a personal blog or submit to a magazine. Behind the scenes shots are great to share as well, especially on Snapchat or Periscope.
4. Write useful and relevant content.
Everyone craves knowledge and wants to learn something new and useful, this is where content marketing comes into play. Businesses that heavily advertise a new product or promotion come off 'sale-sy'. The alternative is to provide consumers with useful information, while naturally incorporating your products or services into the visual and written content. Some various topics that relate to this photo shoot could be:
- List of flowers that are in season in February
- Donut decorating tutorial
- How to design a table scape
- Activities to do with your girlfriends on Valentine's Day
- How to organize a collaboration with vendors
These are topics certain viewers would be interested in learning about. It is highly likely when a customer is looking to purchase a particular product or service from a vendor they will go to the business that provided them valuable information in the past since that business has established themselves as a credible, knowledgeable and trustworthy.
5. Distribute content.
Lastly distribute the content everywhere you can! You have now created beautiful imagery and killer written content to accompany it, so now it is time to share your hard work.
An effective way to share the content is to write a blog post and then share the link of that blog post on Facebook and Twitter. You can also then pin the photo's from the blog post to Pinterest and share the photo's on Instagram and let your followers know they can see more by visiting your blog.
Ensure you tag your fellow collaborator's on social media, and link to their websites in your blog post. You receive the added SEO boost if they link back to your website too. Like how Structube did here.
