Bohemian Summer

For some time I have wanted to photograph a fashion editorial that was evocative of summer. I wanted to create something that was vibrant yet still felt like a warm, dreamy afternoon.

I started this concept by collecting many inspiration images, which included several bohemian dresses, pops of colour and fresh cut flowers. These are the things that come to mind when I anticipate summer.

On the day of the photo shoot Marie and I were driving to a park when I saw pink cherry blossom trees out the corner of my eye. We had to stop because it was too perfect! I love the resulting soft, pink background and how it matches her pink lipstick and the fuchsia hues of the flowers.

We waited patiently for a breeze to catch her hair and dress to add subtle movement to the images. And even though the art direction was dreamy and romantic, Marie’s long dark hair and piercing blue eyes brought a darker, sultry look to the concept.

The florist described the bouquet and crown as wild and untamed, a current trend in weddings. I particularly love the flowers against the sapphire blue maxi dress. I find the contrast is visually striking. While the floral and paisley print dresses tied in the bohemian element.

I am pleased with the final outcome, which I owe to the amazing team I worked with :)
